A. AUTHENTICITY
Are your watches authentic?
Each watch we offer is meticulously examined by a professional watchmaker specializing in vintage watches.
We systematically check the consistency of the movement, markings, references, components… and pay particular attention to "redial" (repainted dials), which were extremely common in the 50s–60s, especially at Omega (for your information, nearly 50% of Omega watches from this period have been repainted: we therefore take great care never to offer these altered versions).
We do not provide a physical certificate of authenticity, as it would have no legal value (we are not a watchmaking company).
On the other hand, each watch is sold with total transparency regarding its condition, operation, and level of originality.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes.
All our watches come with a 3, 6 or 12 month warranty, depending on the level of servicing they received before being put on sale.
12 months : watch fully serviced by a watchmaker
6 months : watch checked and regulated
3 months : watch tested over 24 hours
The warranty period is specified on each product page.
In the event of a problem covered by the warranty, you can simply contact us: we will take care of the intervention with our partner watchmaker.
What are the exclusions from the warranty?
Our warranty covers any mechanical or electronic malfunctions that may occur during normal use of the watch.
depending on the warranty period indicated on the product sheet (3, 6 or 12 months).
However, some situations cannot be covered:
1. Damage resulting from misuse
– Impacts, falls, crushing
– Forced manipulation of the crown, pusher or date
– Magnetization due to prolonged exposure to a magnetic field
– Immersion in water (except for watches explicitly tested for water resistance)
2. Water damage
Vintage watches are generally not guaranteed to be waterproof , even if they were originally waterproof.
Therefore, any entry of water, steam or moisture is not covered.
3. Natural wear and tear due to age
– Power reserve that decreases slightly
– Accuracy that varies within the tolerances of a vintage movement
– Small jumps of the second hand on quartz watches
– Visible dust under the glass (considering the age of the watch)
4. Cosmetic damage appearing after receipt
– Scratches on the glass or the case
– Markings on the bracelet
– Alteration of the lume or paint due to exposure to humidity / UV
5. Interventions carried out outside of Very Vintage
Any intervention carried out by a third-party watchmaker (or attempted repair) voids the warranty , unless prior written agreement has been obtained.
6. Problems related to parts modified after purchase
– Addition of an unsuitable bracelet
– Replacing parts with incompatible components
– Or any aesthetic or mechanical modification
Our goal is always to offer you a transparent and caring experience.
If you have any doubts or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us: we will always find a fair and appropriate solution.
How do you inspect the watches before selling them?
Each Very Vintage watch is carefully inspected before being put up for sale.
`Our goal is simple: to provide you with an authentic, functional and honestly described watch — while respecting the age, history and value of each piece.
1. General aesthetic inspection
We check all visible elements:
– dial (especially originality, to avoid repainted dials),
– needles,
– index and lume,
- glass,
– case and base,
– bracelet or buckle when they are original.
Our photos are taken under neutral light , in order to reflect the true condition of the watch without retouching.
2. Motion verification
We control:
– the consistency of the movement with the reference,
– the absence of missing or incorrect parts,
– the general operation of the caliber (manual, automatic or quartz),
– the date change, the winding and the overall operation.
If necessary, the watch is opened for internal inspection.
3. Functional tests
Depending on the type of watch, we test:
– precision,
– the power reserve,
– stability,
– the second hand (including the “small jump” that may exist on some vintage quartz watches),
– behavior over 24 hours.
We also remind you that vintage watches are not guaranteed to be waterproof , even if they were originally.
4. Three levels of preparation adapted to each watch
Not all our watches receive the same level of service, for one simple reason:
👉We seek to guarantee the best possible quality while maintaining a fair price.
We therefore offer three levels:
Full Service — 12-month warranty
Controlled & Regulated — 6-month warranty
Tested & Inspected — 3-month warranty
Some watches of low value, or whose operation is already very satisfactory, do not justify a complete service.
Conversely, if a watch has a significant defect, it will automatically be serviced before being offered for sale , within reasonable limits and always with a focus on transparency. For collectors who wish to go further, a complete service can also be carried out upon request (quote available upon request).
5. Final inspection before shipment
Before shipping, each watch is retested to ensure it functions as advertised. Transparency, integrity, and respect for each timepiece are at the heart of our watchmaking approach.
Are the watches serviced?
All Very Vintage watches are prepared with care and precision before being put on sale.
However, not all of them receive a complete service — it depends on their actual condition, mechanical complexity and value.
The goal: to offer you a reliable watch, at the fairest price, without unnecessary intervention.
We offer three levels, clearly indicated on each product page:
1. Fully Serviced (12-month warranty)
The watch is entrusted to a professional watchmaker for a complete service including:
– complete disassembly of the movement,
– cleaning,
– oiling,
– replacement of worn parts if necessary,
– adjustment and testing in several positions,
– final inspection over several days.
This level is reserved for watches that truly need it, or for more precious pieces.
2. Controlled & Regulated (6-month warranty)
The watch is fully functional, and a watchmaker intervenes to optimize its performance.
At this level of preparation:
- The movement has been verified.
- The exposed rubies are oiled ,
- The accuracy is adjusted to achieve a rate consistent with the age and design of the caliber.
- The essential functions (winding, date, battery life, second hand) are tested.
No complete revision is performed if the movement is healthy and does not warrant major intervention.
3. Tested & Inspected (3-month warranty)
Even at this entry level, the watch is systematically opened in order to:
– to verify the visual status of the movement,
– to identify any potential anomalies,
– to confirm that no part is damaged or incorrectly replaced,
– to ensure its consistency with the reference.
The watch is then tested on:
- precision,
– autonomy,
– 24-hour behavior,
– date change and general operation.
This level allows us to offer watches at very affordable prices while ensuring serious and transparent control.
Full review upon request
If you would like a watch to undergo a complete service before shipping, this is possible upon request .
The average waiting time is 3 to 5 weeks (excluding the summer period).
.
What matters most to us: transparency & honesty
If, during inspection, a watch presents a significant anomaly or an obvious mechanical risk,
We do what is necessary — including a complete service — before offering it for sale .

F. PRODUCTS & MAINTENANCE
How do I care for my vintage watch?
Maintaining a vintage watch is simple, but requires some precautions to guarantee its longevity.
1. Avoid water and moisture
Unless otherwise stated, vintage watches are not designed to be immersed or worn in the shower.
Avoid all contact with water, steam or excessive humidity.
2. Protect it from shocks and magnetization
Ancient movements are sensitive:
– avoid falls,
– avoid placing the watch near magnetic sources (speakers, smartphones, computers, induction hobs).
3. Wear it regularly
A mechanical watch works best when it is worn.
If you alternate between several watches, wind it gently every 1–2 weeks to keep internal lubrication active.
4. Simple everyday cleaning
A microfiber cloth is sufficient to clean the case and the bracelet.
Avoid cleaning products, solvents or wet wipes.
5. Periodic review (recommended)
Like any mechanical object, a vintage watch may require servicing every 5 to 7 years , depending on its use.
If you have any doubts or notice any abnormal behavior, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We can advise you or arrange a service with our partner watchmaker.
How do I change the battery in a quartz watch?
Changing the battery in a quartz watch is simple for a professional, but can be tricky to do yourself, especially on a vintage watch.
1. Have the battery changed by a watchmaker
We strongly recommend entrusting the battery replacement to a watchmaker.
This allows:
– to avoid damaging the base, the seal or the movement,
– to check the overall condition of the watch,
– to replace the seal if necessary.
2. Why avoid doing it yourself?
Opening a vintage watch without the proper tools can lead to:
- grooves,
– poor bottom closure
– dust in the movement,
– deterioration of the sealing gasket,
– and especially damage to the coil, an extremely fragile and expensive part , the breakage of which can sometimes render the movement irreparable.
This is one of the most frequent causes of destruction of a vintage quartz movement during an amateur battery change.
3. We can advise you
If you wish to change the battery, please contact us:
We can direct you to a competent watchmaker or advise you on the best practices to avoid common mistakes.
A new battery provides a lifespan of 2 to 5 years depending on the model, caliber and usage.
How do you date your watches?
Dating a vintage watch relies on several cross-referenced sources in order to obtain the most accurate estimate possible.
1. The serial number of the movement
Most major watchmakers (Omega, Longines, Tissot, Certina, etc.) have tables of correspondence between serial numbers and production years.
We use these official or recognized archives to determine the year (or range of years) of manufacture of the movement.
2. Period catalogues and archives
We consult catalogues, advertisements and historical documents to verify:
– the model's production period,
– the dials, hands and cases available at the time,
– the aesthetic coherence of the configuration.
3. Specialized watchmaking bases
Depending on the brand, we also use:
– manufacturing databases,
– the resources of watchmaking clubs or communities,
– research consolidated by recognized experts (specialized forums, watchmaking literature).
4. Always transparent dating
When the date can be precisely established, it is indicated on the product sheet.
When the exact year is not certain, we indicate a realistic production range (e.g., “1970s”, “between 1971 and 1973”), in order to remain completely transparent.
We prefer an honest and documented dating rather than a year asserted without certainty.
How can I tell if a watch will fit me?
Choosing the right watch size depends on the diameter of the case, the shape of the model, and the size of your wrist.
1. Refer to the diameter indicated on the product sheet
Each Very Vintage watch mentions its diameter (with or without crown) as well as its shape (round, tonneau, TV shape…).
Perception varies depending on several factors:
- A round watch "wears" a smaller
- A rectangular or TV-shaped watch often appears wider
- A wide dial opening gives the impression of a larger watch
- A black dial appears visually smaller than a light dial.
2. Design influences perception
Several details can alter the perceived size on the wrist:
- A thin watch "wears" smaller
- An angular or thick case "carries" a larger size
- Long or straight horns visually lengthen the presence
- TV-shaped cases fill more space on the wrist than an equivalent round diameter.
3. Model's wrist size (indicated in each product description)
To help you visualize the watch being worn, the wrist size of the model appearing in the photos is always indicated.
This allows you to easily estimate how it will look on your own wrist.
4. Need help?
If you're unsure, send us a photo of your wrist.
We will gladly guide you to the size that best suits your body shape and preferences.
